ERASMUS Programme of Leibniz Universität Hannover Honoured
The DAAD Awards European Quality Seal for Excellent Service
With its very first application Leibniz Universität Hannover was able to convince the independent evaluators of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) of its achievements in organising the exchange of Erasmus students and teaching staff: the DAAD is awarding the “European Quality Seal 2006 - E-Quality” to Leibniz Universität Hannover for the particularly good implementation of the mobility measures of the ERASMUS programme.
“This honour proves that we are following in the right path with our internationalisation strategy. We see foreign students as ambassadors of our university in their home countries. We are very happy to receive the Quality Seal of the DAAD. At the same time it motivates us to continue our work in improving the care and training of these students”, states President Prof. Erich Barke.
The care of the Erasmus students has high priority at Leibniz Universität Hannover. On May 1st, 2006 a new post was created in the International Office specially for this purpose. The International Office takes over the complete initial care of the Erasmus students, such as welcoming them, their matriculation and help with finding accommodation.
The Quality Seal will be awarded during the annual Erasmus conference on 20th/21st June 2007. This year a total of eight German higher education institutions will be honoured in this way.
3,450 foreign students are currently studying at Leibniz Universität Hannover. In the academic year 2006/07 197 students are coming to the University on the ERASMUS programme. At the same time 222 students of Leibniz Universität Hannover are attending European partner universities.
It is the goal of the DAAD to encourage German higher education institutions to continue improving the quality of the exchange of European students and teaching staff. The honour has been awarded since 2005. The criteria for awarding the Quality Seal are innovation, the quality of implementation and the lastingness of the measures. The evaluation also includes aspects of the care of the students, the recognition of performance in the class and the implementation of ECTS , as well as cooperation within the University between central and decentralised institutions.
