Distinctions and Academic Awards

Individuals who have achieved significant merit at the University can be rewarded with the distinction of Honorary Citizen. Donations can also count as significant merits.

The Honorary Medal can be awarded to individuals who have earned it at the University or in parts thereof.

A Faculty Council (with the Senate’s agreement) can award an Honorary Doctorate for outstanding scientific achievements or special personal merits in terms of ideas or concepts.

Upon suggestions made by the Faculty Council, Honorary Professorships are bestowed by the Presidential Executive Committee in agreement with the Senate. These individuals must be recognised scientists and suited to collaboration on the fulfilment of tasks at Leibniz Universität Hannover. Additionally, they must have taught at the University for at least five years.
