Research Initiative
Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies

Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies (German: Hannoversches Zentrum für Optische Technologien, HOT) was founded on July 11th, 2006 by the faculties of Mechanical Engineering, and as Mathematics and Physics of the Leibniz Universität Hannover and by the Hannover Laser Centre as an interdisciplinary amalgamation. The members of HOT are recruited from these fields as well as from the faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and from associated members such as the Federal Institution of Physics and Technology in Braunschweig. The interdisciplinarity of the competences united in HOT reflect the wide variety of research fields in the area of optical technology, and this is expressly desired.

The primary goal of HOT is to bring together the knowledge existing in the individual specialist areas and to make it useful for research teaching and the transfer of knowledge in the field of optical technologies.

Research Tasks

  • Carrying out research and development work in the field of optical technologies
  • Applications for and the coordination of projects to be carried out jointly with outside funding at the national and international level
  • Providing a contact in questions of optical technologies for industry and medium-size firms

Teaching Tasks

  • Holding classes and lectures for the degree course in Optical Technologies of Leibniz Universität Hannover
  • Planning and carrying out further training lectures and classes in the field of optical technologies
  • Training engineers for the optical industry
