Research Initiative Applied Plant Biotechnology
The research initiative Applied Plant Biotechnology was established on 25.05.2009 by the Presidential Executive Committee of the Leibniz Universität Hannover.
Research project presentation
Biotechnological methods have become indispensable in almost all areas of plant sciences for both basic research as well as for application orientated research. Already now, they represent an important pillar in the development of new types of cultivated plants and, taking foreseeable challenges into consideration, for example population growth and climate change, they will play an even more important role in the future.
The Leibniz Universität Hannover has a combination, unique in Germany, of academic work groups from the different fields of plant sciences which range from biotechnological basic research to the various horticultural cultivation areas. The research initiative Applied Plant Biotechnology aims to unite this know how and optimise synergy effects between application orientated research and research which is more orientated towards the basics. Besides the functions in the co-ordination of research projects, the research initiative also supports the faculty of natural sciences in questions regarding academic teaching and plays a considerable role in further training events for teachers in the field of biotechnology as well as in training courses for laboratory workers.
