A Podcast is a video or audio sequence in a series, that you can subscribe for and get them frequently through a Feed (generally RSS) automatically. If a user subscribed for a Podcast (e.g. with a browser, eMail-Client or media player) the arrival of a new episode will be annoced automatically. Podcasts are marked by the following symbol.

A rich variety of Podcasts on different subjects can be found on „iTunes“ at „Podcasts“, many more can also be ordered on music-websites, websites of radio- or TV-stations, and private websites as well.

Podcasts in lectures

In line with the Flowcast project of the Leibniz Universität Hannover numberous courses have been digitalised in as Podcasts during winter term 2009/2010. Students have access to them via Stud.IP. The advantages are numerous: unclear parts of lectures can be watched after the event and repeat as often as necessary, students can also catch up with missed lectures. This is espacially usefull for exam prepartions.

If a podcast is offered for a lecture, an zusätzlicher Reiter im Stud.IP-Menü appears named „Aufzeichnung“ (see the picture to the right). Usually shortly after the lecture took place the Podcast is available and can be opened through the register card. The Podcast is also subscribable and gives an automatical note, if a new one is available.

Podcasts can be downloaded in different formats, currently in h.264, mp3 and .ogg.
Some lectures are only accessable through Stud.IP for copy right reasons. The production of Podcasts is initiated through a special workflow and needs no further finishing, which garanties a quick publication via Stud.IP. New episode can be produced with a minimum of workload for the lecturer.

Due to the high number of demand in winter term we doubled our capacitites in sommer term 2010 to digitalize more lectures. Do you wish for a Podcast of your lecture? Ask your Professor and suggest our Flowcast-program!
