Exemption from Study Fees for Foreign Students
 

Foreign students who must pay the study fees according to § 11 NHG and who are not eligible for a student loan according to § 11 a NHG, may be exempted from payment of the study fees by means of a grant. Only those students who came to Leibniz Universität Hannover before the study fees were introduced are eligible to claim for a grant. Other prerequisites are:

1. An application for a scholarship for the coming semester. The application must be submitted to the registration office by 1st July for a winter semester; and by 15th January for a summer semester; and
2. Registration at Leibniz Universität Hannover at the time the application was submitted within the prescribed length of study plus four semesters; and
3. Evidence of a financial emergency proven by means of documents that clearly show that the student has no income or assets that go above and beyond those which need to be proven to the Foreigners Registration Office; and
4. Proof of a proper degree. A proper degree is held if at least 75 % of the examinations set by the examination board have actually been completed. A certificate from the responsible BAföG (Federal Training Assistance Act)-representative must be submitted.
