Degree Courses

  • Bachelor’s (single degree)

Description of the Subject

Biochemistry has become established at the interface of the classical subjects of chemistry, biology and medicine. It tries to understand and explain the phenomena of life at the molecular level. Here processes in cells as well as multicellular organisations of life forms are observed.

Biochemists observe the behaviour of high-molecular materials in living systems. For example, they investigate how food in the body of a living organism becomes a protein molecule, or what happens in a body when it is fighting an illness. They examine the biochemical processes in healthy and sick human organisms and characterise enzyme defects or metabolic disorders.
