Content and Structure of Degree Courses

Profile of Degree Courses

In Hannover, the independent degree courses in biochemistry are organised jointly by Leibniz Universität Hannover and Hannover Medical School (MHH), with the cooperation of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover (TiHo). This means that a wide variety of research and teaching can be offered, which can be found at only few universities in Germany.

Course Length

  • Prescribed length of study: 6 semesters

Course Content

In this bachelor programme, the core areas of biochemistry are in the foreground. Compulsory electives are general, analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, alongside mathematics, physics and biology. With the electives, deeper knowledge is imparted not only in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, but also in several areas of medical research. A distinguishing feature is the intensive practical training. This practical training, which is similarly-structured to the course, makes up approximately half of the academic studies. From the first term, the students can work together in research groups and also have the opportunity to choose projects from a large selection of practical laboratory training options.

Examination Regulations

Degree courses are subject to certain rules and regulations.
This is essentially a question of regulating the contents e.g. compulsory/ optional subjects, as well as providing information on examination procedures.

Practical Training

Industrial experience can be taken into account.

Study Abroad

Possible but not absolutely necessary.
