Profile of Degree Courses

The interdisciplinary degree courses in computational engineering exist in this form only at Leibniz Universität Hannover. They are offered jointly by the Faculties of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science, Mathematics and Physics, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The International Centre for Computational Engineering Sciences (ICCES) was set up as a dedicated centre of excellence for interdisciplinary research and teaching in computational engineering. Activities include the research training group GK 615, “Interaction of Modelling, Computation Methods and Software Concepts for Scientific-Technological Problems” and the graduate school “Multi-Scale Methods for Interface Coupling” (MUSIC).

Course Length

  • Prescribed length of study: 6 semesters

Course Content

In the Bachelor's degree, students are initially taught the mathematical and scientific basics of engineering. At this early stage, students will also gain important key skills which they will be able to put to specific use later on in their degree. Students learn the subject-specific application of simulation and analytical methods as part of the wide variety of optional modules from civil engineering, electrical engineering, geodesy or mechanical engineering.

Examination Regulations

Degree courses are subject to certain rules and regulations.
This is essentially a question of regulating the contents e.g. compulsory/ optional subjects, as well as providing information on examination procedures.

Practical Training

At least 13 weeks of work experience prior to or during the course is required. Activities in the following areas are accepted: factory work or office work (engineering firm, planning department) as well as a relevant activity with the army or during community service. Evidence must be produced at the beginning of the bachelor's thesis.

Study Abroad

We recommend and support periods abroad at one of our many partner universities and research facilities. The degree is designed in such a way that this is possible without extending the duration of study.
