Degree Courses

  • Master’s (higher degree)

Description of the Subject

Without a sound knowledge of chemistry it is almost impossible to develop new materials, since modern materials are highly complex as far as their chemistry is concerned. Materials chemistry is thus one of the crucial areas of current research in chemistry in which essential innovations are to be expected, also with respect to the development of new materials for many areas of application. An important area here is the chemistry of nanomaterials. Apart from nanostructures, nanoparticular materials, some of which like industrial soot or silicic acids have been in use for decades, are constantly being further developed. The course provides students with a broad training in materials chemistry and chemical nanotechnology. Methods for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of materials and for characterising their essential physical-chemical properties are presented and applied.
