Field robots – Helpers in (almost) all circumstances

Our increasingly technologically-driven world opens up tremendous opportunities to support people effectively through autonomously operating systems, e.g. through assistance systems or intelligent environments, or through mobile robots. This involves not only simplifying and accelerating work processes, and taking over monotonous and/or heavy work, but also rapid navigation and orientation in a complex and unfamiliar environment.

Examples can be found in agriculture, with precision farming, in the construction industry with the navigation of construction machines, and in individual private transport. Field robots have - in contrast to advanced and powerful robots in industrial production or medical engineering – to operate in the real and complex world, i.e. outside of laboratory or factory environments. The emphasis on scanning and modelling the surroundings is a particular feature of the course.
