Profile of Degree Courses

Research-oriented, disciplined, profile-forming; these are the characteristics of this Master’s programme in Political Science. As a consecutive study programme, it intensifies and deepens the basic knowledge of political science. Through the combination of an integrative approach and the choice of five political science areas in which a specialism will be set, the Master’s programme allows students to qualify for work in research, but also in diverse national and internationally-oriented professions.

Course Length

  • Prescribed length of study: 4 semesters

Course Content

The MA in Political Science gives in-depth insights into the factual and systematic content and specific research perspectives in political science, as well as the skills to conduct independent scientific work. Students can select from the following specialisms; the political history of ideas and political theory, political sociology, political systems and comparative government studies, sectors of politics and political administration as well as international relations. The programme is supplemented by the teaching of political science research methods and so-called key qualifications, such as social and methodological skills, which complement the core skills.

Examination Regulations

Degree courses are subject to certain rules and regulations.
This is essentially a question of regulating the contents e.g. compulsory/ optional subjects, as well as providing information on examination procedures.

Practical Training

Relevant practical training of a minimum of eight weeks is compulsory (except for the ‘political history of ideas and political theory’ specialism). Appropriate practical training abroad of a minimum of eight weeks must be completed for the ‘international relations’ specialism.

Study Abroad

A stay abroad is not compulsory, but is particularly recommended for the ‘international relations’ specialisation. Study and exam work carried out abroad will be recognised when seen to be of equal value.
