The spirit of Leibniz – as one of the nine leading universities of technology in Germany, Leibniz University Hannover is aware of its responsibility to contribute to identifying sustainable, peaceful and responsible solutions to the key issues of tomorrow. Our expertise for doing this stems from our broad spectrum of subjects, ranging from engineering and natural sciences to architecture and environmental planning, from law and economics to social sciences and humanities. On 1 January 2024, sponsorship of the university was transferred to a foundation under public law (Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover Public Law Foundation).

Diverse and cosmopolitan

Leibniz University Hannover is diverse and cosmopolitan – just like our namesake, the polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.

The broad range of subjects at Leibniz University complements the overall university strategy of raising its profile, particularly in terms of its teaching and research. This includes the establishment and enhancement of research priority areas originating in the humanities and social sciences.

Cooperation agreements with national and international partners strengthen our scientific expertise.

By adopting the name of the polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz in 2006, the university committed itself to unity in its diversity.

Internationalisation is on the agenda
