Prof. Gunter-A. Pilz from the Institute of Sport Science is one of the most renowned fan researchers in Germany.

The sociologist Prof. Gunter-A. Pilz studies the issue of sport and violence, amongst other things. He examines issues such as the behaviour of spectators at football matches, including aspects of racism and discrimination.

Professor Pilz is an expert in fan culture and has already published numerous works. 24 years ago, he launched one of the first, now nationally recognised socio-pedagogical football fan projects, the Hannover Fan Project, and is still providing scientific support for this today.

He is an advisor to the German Football League in fan issues, prevention of violence and integration and was a consultant for the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior.

He is currently compiling a report for the Federal Ministry of the Interior entitled "Right-wing Extremism in Sport in Germany and Internationally".
