Records and Highlights

The Coastal Research Centre has the world's largest wave flume.

330 metres long, 7 metres deep and 5 metres wide – these specifications make the Large Wave Channel in Hannover unique in the world. Up to 2.50 metre-high waves can be created in the research facility. The hydraulic wave machine with a power output of 900 kW even makes it possible to simulate tsunamis.

The Coastal Research Centre also provides important scientific insights into harbour construction by experimenting with breakwaters. The researchers also contribute to the protection of wind turbines at sea, so called offshore wind farms.
