Information for Students from a Partner University

Application as an exchange student

If you come from one of the numerous partner universities of the Leibniz Universität Hannover, (except Erasmus and ISEP) you have the ability to spend a semester or a full academic year in Hannover at all times. You must first, however, apply at your home university. Onces you have been selected, you can apply directly to Leibniz Universität Hannover, after your home university nominated you at our university. The nomination has to reach us by the 30th April for the winter semester and by the 31st Oktober for every summer semester.

Your home university may request additional qualifications for the exchange program, however, you should have good knowledge of the German language to be able to follow the lectures. If you intend, for example, to follow an individual research project in Hannover, this can be organized to be under a supervisor in the English language.

You may only apply online for studying abroad as an exchange student at Leibniz Universität Hannover. With your online application, you transfer all necessary personal details and information on the requested exchange place. The form for submission of your personal and academic data is available in both German and English. You can obtain both versions through the respective links below. Please fill in the online form thoroughly and carefully, because the data will be entered as it has been submitted. (i.e. typing mistakes in your postal address, for example, or mistyped phone numbers will appear on all documents which the International Office sends to you or to your home university, or e-mails will not reach you.) Please attend to the exact use of small and capital letters. Pay attention to notifications of missing data which you might receive while filling in the form. Be thorough.


1. Filling in the online application

At first, you have to fill in our Online Application. After completing your data, you will be shown a test site where you can check the submitted information, make corrections if necessary and then send electronically. After submitting your data, a PDF-document will open with your application form. Please print this document. If you do not have access to a printer at the moment, you can also save the document first and print it later.  Please keep in mind that a print out of the online application is needed for the application. It is not sufficient to just fill in the online application.

If you wish to change the data after the electronic transfer of your online application, please repeat the entire process. On the basis of date and time, we are able to retrace which is the recently received and presumably conclusive application that you have submitted.

2. Collecting all necessary documents

Please supplement the printout of the online application with a passport photo, sign it and have it signed and stamped by the exchange coordinator of your home university.

Sorry, your application cannot be considered if your own signature and/or the signature of your exchange coordinator are missing on the printout of the online application form!

Please note that we only accept applications in which sufficient language skills (intermediate German knowledge according to CEFR and/or in some fields of study English) can be attested by the home university. Keep in mind that most courses are held in German. Please inform yourself in advance in which language your courses of study (or research project) are offered.

Furthermore you have to attach a current Transcript of Records, showing the courses and/or modules you have studied so far at your home university. 

At last we need a Learning Agreement. Together with you faculty coordinator you should choose courses from our course catalog or modules out of the module catalog (Modulkatalog) you wish to study here. As you might not be able to find the course catalog of the semester you will be studying here, just look at one from the year before. After arriving in Hannover and attending the first courses, you may update your Learning Agreement with the actual courses you are taking here.

3. Sending your application via email

Please make sure all documents will reach us via email not later then May 31st of each year for the following winter semester or November 30th if you wish to study here in the summer semester.

After having received your written documents, having examined your application and being accepted by the department, we will send you an acceptance letter along with the signed forms and additional important information.

No additional forms are required at this present time. Please do not send any registration forms to us or any other office at Leibniz Universität Hannover. The registration will be held during your first days in Hannover.
