Kurzbeschreibung

The subject spanish is offered as one of two subjects within the Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Degree Programme. Please note the subject combination options.

The Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Degree Programme is ideal for prospective students who have not yet decided on a specific career, as a wide variety of careers are open to them following graduation. Alternatively, after completing this degree programmes, graduates may embark on a Master’s Teacher Training Course for Grammar Schools or a subject-specific Master’s degree programme (in Hannover, e.g. Atlantic Studies). The Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Degree Programme comprises two subjects (major and minor subjects) and the professional skills development area involving important interdisciplinary skills. At the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, students take seminars on literary studies and cultural sciences, linguistics, teaching methodology (how to deal with school-based teaching and learning situations) as well as language practice (Spanish lessons). Students also have the opportunity to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country via the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. The professional skills development area, on the other hand, is also held at other institutes. This area is divided into two parts: Educational Science (Education and Psychology) and Key Transferable Skills, such as courses on IT and multimedia, PR work, social skills for teachers, violence prevention or on the use of the voice at school.

Studienverlauf

Students first take basic modules in which they learn the key skills and knowledge required for further study. These are followed by advanced seminars (advanced and specialisation modules) in which these skills and knowledge are expanded on and developed. Parallel to this, students take language practice courses to ensure they gradually improve the language level they had before starting university. After a year or so, students start learning about teaching methodology, i.e. the teaching and learning of foreign languages in school-based contexts. Students complete the degree programme with a Bachelor’s thesis after around three years. The thesis is a roughly 30-page written paper on a topic agreed beforehand with a lecturer.

As part of the interdisciplinary bachelor's degree programme, students with a focus on teaching have to complete a non-school-based internship as well as a school internship, both lasting four weeks. The non-school-based internship helps students to get first work insights in the area of teaching, to check on their career aspiration. For students with an non-school-based focus, an eight-week non-school-based internship must be completed.
