Lower Saxony – Scotland Joint Forum

The European Centre for Advanced Studies (ECAS) on behalf of Leuphana University Lüneburg and the University of Glasgow, cordially invites you to the first of many editions of the Lower Saxony – Scotland Joint Forum. The Joint Forum is funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK). Due to the continued uncertainties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and potential disruption to travel arrangements, ECAS has made the decision to change the format of the event to an online format:

All Joint Forum participants will be invited to take part in the events and workshops on a remote basis, via an online platform. We hope that this change in format will encourage more colleagues from universities across Scotland and Lower Saxony to participate in the event and that it will be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

ABOUT

The Joint Forum is a two-day event organised by Leuphana University Lüneburg together with the European Centre for Advanced Studies (ECAS) and the University of Glasgow. It is supported and financed by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK). As an expression of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the State Rectors Conference of Lower Saxony (LHK) and the Universities Scotland (US), the Joint Forum 2020 shall build the basis for a yearly returning conference functioning as a networking platform for researchers, academics, staff and students from both countries. Existing cooperations between universities and higher education institutions shall be deepened and new ones established. It is believed that these cooperations will go far beyond the conference and a lasting network between universities is established to the benefits of both Lower Saxony and Scotland.

During the conference you may expect to listen to presentations of renown scientists from universities in Scotland and Lower Saxony, young researchers as well as motivated students presenting interesting research as well collaboration ideas on ongoing as well as future joint projects. Next to this, there will be plenty of opportunity to network, engage in discussions and find new partners.

ECAS – IDEA AND MISSION

In times of change and political uncertainty, it is essential to continue and strengthen cooperation between academic institutions, professors, researchers, and students. ECAS fosters exchange between academics from different countries and advances education and research with a strong focus on interdisciplinarity. In this way, ECAS is emblematic of the European Idea.

As a joint research institution, ECAS provides researchers with a platform to develop and carry out joint research and study programmes and to pursue commercial and industrial engagement of the partners.
