Small-Scale Mixing Processes in Clouds: From Basic Insights to Their Importance for Marine Cloud Brightening
Kurzzusammenfassung/Abstract:
The role of clouds in the global radiation budget is primarily determined by their cloud microphysical composition, i.e., the number and size of cloud droplets. By affecting these two quantities, the small-scale mixing of clouds with their environment can have important implications on the optical properties of clouds. In this talk, we will outline the basics of small-scale mixing, introduce a novel approach to emulate it in large-eddy simulations, and discuss applications to marine cloud brightening, a proposed geoengineering approach to counteract global warming.
