The problem

is considered for ℓ ≥ 0 and under no-flux boundary conditions in smoothly bounded convex planar domains Ω. The global bounded nonnegative weak solutions (u, v) with (u, v)(·, 0) = (u0, v0) are constructed. In comparison to previous partial results, this removes any assumption on strict positivity of u0 and on the size of (u0, v0).
