Information for applicants concerning General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) information requirements

In the event that you apply for an advertised position at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, we wish to inform you that protection of your personal data is of the utmost importance to us.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the new Lower Saxony Data Protection Act (NDSG-neu) are the legal basis for the protection of staff data and therefore also of applicants’ data. In accordance with Article 13 (1) and (2) GDPR, upon receipt of documents we must inform applicants of the type of data that we collect:

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover is responsible for the collection of data with respect to the application process and is therefore the data controller according to data protection regulations.

We collect and process the personal data of applicants for the purpose of the application process. The legal basis for this is Article 6 (1) (e) GDPR, in conjunction with Article 88 GDPR, in conjunction with section 12 NDSG-neu. If necessary, personal data will be disclosed to the equal opportunities officer, the representative for employees with disabilities, the staff council and human resources.

Personal data will be stored for the duration of the application process and up to 6 months thereafter. Then, the data will be erased.

You have the right to be informed of personal data relating to you, as well as the right to rectification or erasure of data or restriction of processing thereof. Furthermore, you have the right to object to processing and the right to possible data transfer. You also have the right to register a complaint with the regulatory authority, if you are of the opinion that the processing of personal data relating to you does not comply with the legal provisions. In this respect, the Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony is the responsible regulatory authority.

If you choose not to provide necessary information, your application cannot be processed.

If it is intended to process your personal data for another purpose, the relevant institution will provide you with information on this other purpose and all other important information prior to such further processing.
