The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO to be filled at the earliest possible date: University Professorship in Production Engineering and Machine Tools

The Position

The head of the institute represents the field in teaching and research.

Teaching responsibilities include lectures in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Engineering and Industrial Engineering. The focus is on a comprehensive presentation of machining production technology, with an emphasis on the fundamentals and application of machining processes, machine tools, and associated digital methods.

The institute's research activities focus on innovative and pioneering tools and processes for machining, the associated machine tools and components, as well as digital process planning and control. In addition to close collaboration within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the institute also works across faculties and universities, e.g. with Computer Science and Medicine, on a national and international level.

Your Profile

To fulfill the above-mentioned responsibilities, the following qualifications are expected:

  • A personality with outstanding expertise in at least one of the aforementioned fields, demonstrated through publications or exceptional professional achievements in practice
  • Extensive experience in acquiring third-party funding (e.g., DFG, BMBF, BMWK, AiF)
  • Several years of successful work in research and/or industrial development/practice, including several years of leading large working groups
  • Qualifications necessary to lead a large institute of mechanical engineering, such as strong communication and leadership skills
  • The ability to teach courses in both German and English

Additionally, the following is desirable:

  • Demonstrated strong innovative capability across the broad field of manufacturing technology and machine tools, as well as the ability to collaborate with other mechanical engineering institutes, research institutions, and industrial companies
  • Experience in supervising early-career researchers
  • Willingness to maintain and further develop the institute’s international and industry-related network

Applicants are especially expected to be willing to contribute to coordinated research initiatives, such as collaborative research centers (Sonderforschungsbereiche) or clusters of excellence. It is desirable that the institute’s excellent experimental infrastructure continues to be used effectively and that the link between basic research and practical application is maintained.
