The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO starting April 1, 2027: University Professorship in Materials Science
The Position
The professorship is responsible for the executive management of the Institute of Materials Science at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH). The institute is one of 20 institutes within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at LUH and is located on the Campus Maschinenbau Garbsen (CMG), which was completed in 2020. Materials Science plays a key role in shaping the engineering competence profile in teaching and provides essential contributions to both fundamental and applied research, particularly in the faculty’s focus area of production engineering. The institute is one of the largest and most important within the faculty and acts as an initiator and key participant in major collaborative research initiatives, for example through (co-)coordination of Collaborative Research Centers (CRCs and TRRs) as well as research buildings. The tasks include research and teaching in the field of Materials Science.
Your Profile
To fulfill the above tasks, it is expected:
- Proven expertise in Materials Science, demonstrated through publications or outstanding subject-related achievements in practice
- Extensive experience in securing third-party funding (e.g., DFG, BMBF, BMWK, AiF)
- Several years of experience in leading large research groups
- Ability to teach courses in both German and English
It is also desirable:
- Several years of experience in scientific work in a topic relevant to Materials Science at a university or in an industrial company
- Evidence of professional breadth and innovative ability in Materials Science
- Experience in independently conducting courses, ideally with very good evaluations
- Experience in supervising young scientists
- Experience in laboratory work
