Information for international Erasmus+ students (Incomings) from Programme and Partner Countries

This guide is intended for applicants from Erasmus+ programme countries. Information for applicants from Erasmus+ partner countries (outside of Europe) can be found here.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION

You are eligible to participate in the Erasmus+ programme at Leibniz University Hannover if your home institution has concluded an Erasmus+ agreement with one of our faculties.
The cooperation agreement must include exchange places in your degree programme. Please apply for a place within the scope of the Erasmus+ programme at your home institution first. If you are selected for the programme, you are welcome to apply to Leibniz University Hannover.

Further information on the appeal of Hannover as a destination for international students is available via this link

Step 1: Nomination and Online Application

Please note that in order to apply for the exchange programme of Leibniz University Hannover, your home institution must approve your application first. Your home institution must submit your nomination electronically by 30 April for the winter semester or by 31 October for the summer semester.

After we have confirmed your nomination, you are required to complete the online application form of the International Office.

After entering your details, you can double-check all information on the following page and make changes before submitting your application electronically. After submitting your details electronically, you can generate a PDF file of the application form. Please print this document. It is not sufficient to complete the application form online. We require a printout (see below). If you need to change your information after you have submitted the online application, please submit a new online form. We will determine which one is your final application by checking the date and time of your last submission.

Step 2: Preparing Your Documents

The signed printout of your online application must be accompanied by a passport photo. Please have the printout signed and stamped by the Erasmus+ coordinator at your university. Your application cannot be processed without your signature and the signature of the Erasmus+ coordinator on the printout of the online form!

Please also provide proof of sufficient skills (intermediate level,  CEFR B1/B2) in the language of instruction (German and/or English). Please check beforehand, which languages are required for the majority of your lectures or for conducting research in your field.

Please submit a current Transcript of Records that lists completed courses and/or modules at your home institution.

We also require your Learning Agreement (“Before the mobility”). We advise you to choose appropriate courses with your course coordinator using our course catalogue or the module handbook. As details on upcoming lectures are not available until four weeks prior to the start of the semester, you should consult the course catalogue from the previous year. You can update your Learning Agreement after arriving in Hannover.

Further information on how to choose lectures can be found under Choosing your Courses.

Step 3: Sending Your Application

Please submit your application documents via email by 31 May for the winter semester or by 30 November for the summer semester!

Upon receipt, we will assess your application. Following the approval of the faculty, you will receive a letter of acceptance accompanied by the signed forms, as well as detailed information on accommodation, language courses, the Study Buddy Programme, how to get here, enrolment, and orientation days.

The following checklist provides an overview of the application process: Checklist application

Your application must be accompanied by the following documents:

1. Printout of the Online Application
2. Learning Agreement (signed by the authorized person in charge of the recognition of foreign
exams) ⇒ Annex: Guidelines to the Learning Agreement
3. Transcript of Records
4. Proof of language proficiency "intermediate" (according to CEFR)

Please submit your application documents via email to:

ECTS AT LEIBNIZ UNIVERSITÄT HANNOVER

At Leibniz University Hannover, ECTS credits are awarded by the faculties. It is therefore possible that the respective degree programmes allocate a different number of credit points for assessments such as term papers. Each faculty provides detailed information about ECTS credits on their respective website.

In order to receive credit points for their coursework, students must successfully complete an assessment at Leibniz University Hannover. Please request a certificate (such as a “Schein” including the mark and credit points) for each assessment completed in Hannover. You will need them at the end of your stay in order to receive a Transcript of Records. The Transcript of Records will not be compiled automatically by the Examination Office or the International Office.
