Northeastern University, Boston

Northeastern University, founded in 1898, is located in central Boston and is consistently ranked among the Top 40 American Universities.


There are two intertwined programs between the Biology Department at Northeastern University and the Natural Science Department at LUH. The latter is partially funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) within the framework of ISAP (or IAS) and has been ongoing since 1980.

The stay at Northeastern usually occurs in the winter semester. 


Eligible Programs

On the German side, the program is open to students in the following master's programs: Life Science, Molecular Microbiology und Plant- and Biotechnology.


Semester Dates

Semester 3: Winter semester, usually October – March


Funding Period

October 1st - March 31st 



All master's students with a completed Bachelor's degree in the programs of Life Science, Molecular Micorbiology and Plant- and Biotechnology are eligible to apply.

There will be an informational meeting in January, interviews will be scheduled for April.

(Reduced) Tuition will be coverd by DAAD. Furthermore a monthly stipend of currently 1175 € will be paid out and flat rate airfare will also be covered.
