Latin America

Hero Image Hero Image Hero Image

Latin America comprises 20 countries and forms a fascinating region that embodies both unity and diversity. Here, a reality that can be challenging at times is matched by incredible resilience, creativity and a hopeful energy. Shaped historically by pre-Columbian cultures and the colonial era, cities designed in harmony with the environment stand alongside European architecture. The remarkable biodiversity of Latin America’s Pachamama (Mother Earth) is impressive in all its forms and colours, earning it the nickname ‘the lungs of the world’. Get to know this diverse and welcoming region and choose to take part in an exchange with one of the many partner universities in Latin America.

In your dreams, your heart travels.

Leibniz University Hannover’s partner universities in Latin America offer opportunities for study, research and work placements of varying durations. Options include, for example, one- or two-semester study placements (tuition-free), summer school programmes, research placements of at least four weeks’ duration for the purpose of writing a term paper or dissertation, internships at institutes and research facilities, language assistantships and PhD programmes.

You can find all the information about the partner universities in the respective countries on our country pages (e.g. Argentina).

Internship abroad

There is also the option of undertaking an internship abroad in Latin America. The DAAD’s internship placement service can assist with finding an internship placement. Students or graduates of teacher training programmes can find an internship placement in Latin America through the DAAD’s “Lehramt.international” scholarship programme. For further information on internships abroad, please arrange a consultation with our regional coordinator, Cesar Limaylla Bustamante, or our contact person for all matters relating to internships abroad, Azar Hagshenas.

Freemover

As a ‘freemover’, you organise your stay abroad independently, outside of an exchange programme. You have a very wide choice of universities, but as there is no exchange agreement with LUH, you will need to pay the tuition fees. You can apply directly to foreign universities or through an organisation such as World of Students, College Contact, etc.
