What is the Erstival?
The Erstival is the official central welcome event for new first-year students at Leibniz University Hannover.
On 12 October, from 10.00 to 16.00, a varied programme awaits you in the Welfengarten behind the main building of Leibniz University Hannover, offering plenty of opportunities to discover your new university.

Programme to be announced
The programme for the Erstival is currently being drawn up and is being updated on an ongoing basis. As soon as the planning is finalised, we will publish all the programme items and further information about the events here.
Attendance and Admission
The Erstival is aimed exclusively at newly enrolled students at Leibniz University Hannover who are starting their studies in the 2026/27 winter semester.
You will receive your personal festival wristband by post along with your LeibnizCard. Please keep this safe until you start your studies.
The festival wristband is your ticket to the event site at the Welfengarten – so please make sure you bring it with you on 12 October.

I’ve lost my festival wristband or didn’t get one at all – what should I do now?
A small number of new students may not have received their entry wristband with their LeibnizCard via mail. In this case, you can collect your entry wristband from the Service Centre in the main building during opening hours, providing your student ID number. Alternatively, you can send an email to erstival@uni-hannover.de.
You can also obtain a replacement wristband from the Service Centre on the day of Erstival. Please remember to bring a valid ID with you so that we can verify your status as a first-year student.

What happens in bad weather?
What if the weather’s set to be bad on the day?
We’re prepared for any eventuality and will provide rainwear if necessary. The Erstival will go ahead regardless.

Is the event accessible?
We plan and organise the event to be as accessible as possible and endeavour to take a wide range of needs into account. If you have any questions or would find it helpful to receive support so that you can take part in the event without any difficulties, please feel free to contact our representative for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses.

What if another event is taking place at the same time?
As well as the main welcome event at Erstival, there are also individual induction sessions for your specific degree programme. These are run by lecturers and students from the faculties and should not be scheduled to take place at the same time as Erstival. There are no compulsory events for first-year students as part of their degree programme on 12 October

Do I need to register for Erstival?
You don’t need to register separately for the Erstival. Your enrolment is your official invitation – your festival wristband is your ticket to the Erstival.
