If you want to study two complete degree programmes at the same time at university, this is referred to as the simultaneous pursuit of two degree programmes (Doppelstudium). Find out below how to apply for the simultaneous pursuit of two degree programmes and what you need to bear in mind:

Study two complete degree programmes at the same time

Does it make sense to pursue two degree programmes simultaneously?

It could be that you are already pursuing a degree at our university, and realise you have the time and the inclination to embark on a second degree programme. In that case, you can pursue two degree programmes simultaneously.

Whether that really makes sense in your case depends on individual factors. In particular, studying two degree programmes from the start can present you with major challenges and is therefore not always recommended or, in a few constellations, not legally possible.

Before doing so, however, it is advisable to seek consultation from the Student Advice Office and/or the academic advisor of the programme.

Simultaneous pursuit of two degree programmes involving

… one degree programme with unrestricted admission and one with restricted admission

You apply for the second programme, in this case the programme with restricted admission.

… two degree programmes with unrestricted admission

You simply enrol within the applicable registration periods.

… two degree programmes with restricted admission

You apply for the second programme, in this case the programme with restricted admission. You will need written confirmation (see application form) from the Dean (or the Dean of Studies) of your new faculty that the simultaneous degree programme is possible from an organisational perspective and is a useful addition to the degree programme you have already started. Once you have been admitted to the programme, present the signed application form to the Admissions Office

Parallel Study

If you are already pursuing a degree at a university / higher education institution in Germany and would like to embark on an additional degree programme at Leibniz Universität Hannover, this is referred to as “parallel study”.

If the new programme you wish to take has restricted admission, you must apply for a place before the closing date for applications. If you are awarded a place, present the “Application form for parallel study” (see PDF) to the Dean of your new faculty. Once your application has been approved by the faculty, submit it together with your letter of acceptance to the Admissions Office.

If your second degree programme is with unrestricted admission, simply enrol within the registration period.

Parallel studies have an impact on the semester fee. In order to be able to check and make a possible reimbursement of fees, please email us a receipt for the semester in question and a certificate of enrolment from the other universityas a PDF document to semesterbeitrag@zuv.uni-hannover.de.
