Short Description

The Master’s degree programme in Power Engineering takes four semesters. The core subjects are power plant technology, energy supply, energy use and wind energy to choose from, each offering a wide range of individual choices. The students complete a 16-week internship and complete their studies with their master's thesis.

Graduates in power engineering are offered a wide range of jobs in the energy industry or with manufacturers of energy technology systems and components (e.g. turbines, electrical machines, power electronics).

In the age of scarcity of resources and climate change, there is an urgent need to improve the efficiency of existing technologies for resource conservation and to further develop new technologies for the use of renewable energy sources.

Accordingly, the need for qualified engineers in the field of power engineering is growing. The interdisciplinary master's programme consists of equal parts from electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.

Recommended Abilities

Students of Power Engineering should possess strong powers of imagination and abstraction; it is also important that they have a technical flair, an interest in mathematics, and a logical, pragmatic and realistic way of thinking. Good foreign language skills are very important for entering the job market. Solid English language skills are therefore advantageous.

Career Opportunities

The Master of Science degree in Power Engineering qualifies graduates to take on managerial functions in various company departments. Graduates assume project responsibility for globally operating companies, medium-sized enterprises and smaller emerging engineering firms in the field of power supply, component manufacture (e.g. turbine and generator construction) or in the construction of power stations and industrial plant. Graduates are also capable of addressing issues relating to building energy and the energy industry. They also have the option of pursuing a doctorate.
