Short Description
Plant Operations and Manufacturing of Wood Products is offered as a vocational subject area within the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education for Single-subject Bachelor’s Graduates (LBS-Sprint). In addition, students are required to study a second subject or teaching subject.
Students also acquire teaching skills specific to the vocational field of wood technology, which they require as the necessary foundation for working as a teacher at a vocational school.
This encompasses the analysis, design and evaluation of teaching and learning processes in vocational education and includes practical placements at vocational schools offering courses in the construction sector. Based on the analysis of work processes and the specialist knowledge required for them, the development of school curricula and the design of lesson sequences in vocational schools form a central component of the subject-specific didactics programme.

The degree programme in Wood Technology comprises three or five modules. The following modules are intended for students who have not yet studied subject-specific didactics or vocational pedagogy as part of their Bachelor’s degree:
- Subject-Specific Didactics 2: Methods of Vocational Training and Research in the Construction Industry
- Subject Didactics 4: Lesson planning, preparation and delivery, and evaluation in vocational education in construction
- Master’s thesis
The requirements for two further modules are as follows:
- Subject Didactics 1: Institutions and organisation of vocational education in the construction industry
- Subject Didactics 3: Media didactics and digitalisation in vocational education in the construction industry
Proof of 52 weeks of work experience or relevant vocational training must be provided by the time of registration for the Master’s thesis. This may be completed during the course of study or prior to commencing the programme. Proof of at least 12 weeks of this 52-week work experience must be provided no later than two semesters after the start of the programme.
As well as enjoying working with people, prospective students should have a broad interest in the areas of work associated with careers in wood technology.
Successful completion of the consecutive Master’s degree programme in Teaching at Vocational Schools is a prerequisite for commencing the preparatory service (teaching placement) at vocational schools. Outside the teaching profession, career opportunities in the field of vocational education are available at companies, textbook publishers, chambers of commerce and trade associations. A PhD programme enables students to gain further qualifications in the academic field.

- Engineering – specialising in Wood and Furniture Technology
- Industrial engineering degree programmes are considered relevant if they comprise at least 150 LP of subject-specific content.
