Study Fees

Students of the Master’s degree programme in Special Needs Education for Schools pay an additional 50€ per semester. Other students, who are not additionally enrolled in the master''s programme, pay 250€ per semester. Fee regulation (German language only)

Short Description

In Lower Saxony, students on a regular course in Special Needs Education for Schools take only one teaching subject. Students who successfully complete a supplementary subject are able to expand their skills with an additional teaching subject. The course is open to students on the Master’s degree programme in Special Needs Education for Schools at Leibniz Universität Hannover as well as to external applicants who have already obtained a degree in Special Needs Education. If students take the programme while in employment, it may take longer than four semesters to complete.

Students can choose from the following teaching subjects: German, Protestant and Catholic Religious Education, Social Studies and Physical Education. The programme lasting four semesters may also be studied while in employment.

Course Structure

The programme comprises the entire course of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Special Needs Education in the chosen teaching subject and of the Master’s degree programme in Special Needs Education for Schools in the chosen teaching subject, in equal parts, worth a total of 60 credit points.

Depending on the subject chosen, students may have to complete practical training. The course content comprises modules and courses on the teaching subject taken within the framework of the relevant degree programmes.

Career Opportunities

The supplementary programme leading to a certificate for teaching special needs education enables graduates to meet the requirement for receiving a formal qualification to teach the completed subject (formal qualification to teach a subject) from the recruiting educational authorities. Students must clarify with the competent department of the state school authorities whether the completed subject may be an examination subject in the preparatory phase of teacher training.
