The Bachelor’s degree programme in Medical Technology is an interdisciplinary study programme combining engineering, medicine and other sciences. In close cooperation with Hannover Medical School, students acquire practical knowledge to develop technical solutions for diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The programme prepares students for the analysis, modelling and further development of medical technology systems, from basic research through to clinical application.
During their studies, students gain a broad understanding of technical, medical and scientific contexts. They learn to analyse complex systems and processes, to develop innovative solutions based on sound methodology, and to implement them in an interdisciplinary manner. In addition to specialist knowledge in engineering, medicine and the natural sciences, skills in communication, teamwork and scientific working methods are fostered. Furthermore, abilities in ethical, legally compliant and regulatory conduct, as well as responsible decision-making, are strengthened. This enables medical technicians to transfer technical innovations into medical practice. To help students develop their own individual profiles, a range of specialisations is available, enabling them to deepen their own interests in a targeted manner and prepare early on for future-oriented fields of work in medical technology.

The Medical Technology degree programme provides students with a solid grounding in engineering and medicine from the outset, systematically providing them with a practice-related holistic understanding of the subject. In this context, students gain the ability to understand, evaluate and advance technical systems in a medical setting. They benefit from a range of interdisciplinary courses offered by various faculties and research institutions, including the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Hannover Medical School, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences, as well as the NIFE and CELLS research clusters.
During the first four semesters, students focus on mathematics, mechanics, electrical engineering, materials science and the medical fundamentals of anatomy, physiology and pathology. Building on this foundation, they learn to apply technical concepts to medical issues, performing data-driven analyses and simulations.
From the fifth semester onwards, students can choose specialisations to develop their interests in specific areas. A twelve-week specialised internship and a period abroad are optional. The degree programme concludes with a Bachelor’s thesis in the sixth semester.

If you did not graduate from a German school nor have a German higher education entrance qualification (for example, the Abitur), a language certificate proving your knowledge of German is required for the application and enrollment.
