Short Description

In the Master’s degree programme in Production and Logistics, students expand on their theoretical knowledge of technical processes and methods for manufacturing and distributing technical goods, as well as developing their knowledge for analysing and resolving technical and business problems. Students are concerned with the planning, organisation and optimisation of the processes and flows of resources required to achieve this. In this way, students learn how to analyse manufacturing companies with regard to change processes and to undertake adaptations to technical and organisational change. Graduates are prepared for assuming managerial responsibilities in operational organisation and for managing complex production processes.

Course Structure

The Master’s programme in Production and Logistics is noted for the great freedom of choice offered to students. During the first or second semester, the only compulsory module is Production Management and Logistics. In addition, students expand on their expert knowledge in the two areas of specialisation “Production Technology” and “Technical Logistics and Supply Chain Management”. They also take subject-specific courses. Students who completed the compulsory element of at least twelve weeks of practical training at the Bachelor’s stage are free to take further options in the areas of specialisation. Students who have not yet completed practical training are required to do so by the time they register for the Master’s thesis at the latest. The Studium Generale also gives students the opportunity to choose any module from the university’s entire range of courses. The programme also includes accompanying Master’s laboratory practicals, specialised tutorials and practice-oriented field trips. In the third semester, students complete a student research project that prepares them for the Master’s thesis, which is to be completed in the fourth semester, concluding the degree programme.

Recommended Abilities

It is essential that students have analytical skills in the area of calculation and design as well as an understanding of physical/technical interrelations; they should also be able to think economically and realistically. In addition to having good organisational skills and being flexible, students should also be willing to undertake teamwork, act independently and accept responsibility.

Career Opportunities

Since graduates of the Master’s degree programme in Production and Logistics are more qualified than Bachelor’s degree graduates, they are able to work in more complex, research-based settings and can be deployed in a more diverse range of areas. They are usually engaged in industry in fields such as business management, research and development, quality control, production, materials management and logistics. The Master of Science degree also entitles graduates to pursue a doctorate.
