International Applicants: Requirements for studying

In order to study at a German university, two requirements are particularly important: language skills and a school degree, which is recognized in Germany as a higher education entrance qualification.


HIGHER EDUCATION ENTRANCE QUALIFICATION

International applicants need a higher education entrance qualification in order to study at Leibniz University Hannover.

  • For the application for a bachelor's degree programme, in most cases, the high school diploma from the home country is sufficient.
  • Applicants for Master's programmes require a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Knowledge of German for prospective students from abroad
  • Candidates applying for a place on Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme delivered in German must prove their knowledge of German at the time of applying!
  • Level B1 is sufficient at the time of applying
  • At enrolment, students must provide evidence of having language level C1 (proven by a recognised test, such as DSH 2, TestDaF 4*4, Telc C1 Hochschule)
