Coronavirus: start of the new semester postponed – examinations suspended until further notice

Dear colleagues,

The current situation is not something that we were prepared for. It is an extraordinary situation that affects society and individuals alike. It is unsure what the next few weeks will bring.

Protecting the health of all citizens is of the highest priority. Everything else must take a back seat.

In accordance with recommendations issued by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK), the start of the lecture period at Leibniz University Hannover will be postponed until 20 April 2020.

In this context, examinations and all lectures currently in process will be suspended for the time being. As of tomorrow, 14 March 2020, there will be no examinations at LUH until further notice.

University management urges administrative staff as well as members of staff in facilities and institutes to prepare contingency plans to ensure that operations or services at LUH can be maintained. Please discuss this with your colleagues and superiors, be creative and innovative - above all: show solidarity!

As of Monday, all schools and day-care facilities in Lower Saxony will be closed until 18 April 2020. The following applies to all members of staff at LUH: Following consultation with their supervisor, parents who need to make alternative arrangements for childcare due to the closure of day-care facilities or schools, should work home. Employees are not released from their duties! (If working from home is not feasible or advisable, members of staff may submit a request for paid special leave following consultation with human resources. Requests should be submitted to the relevant clerk in the Personnel and Legal Department.)

LUH has established a hotline as well as email support for queries regarding employment legislation. In case of emergencies, the hotline is available around the clock: corona@uni-hannover.de; +49 177 762 3700

For additional information, please check our website https://www.uni-hannover.de/en/corona. We strive to provide information on new developments as soon as possible.

Since there are no easy solutions due to the dynamic nature of the situation, we thank you for your patience in this matter.

Please take good care of yourself and your family!

Kind regards,

Dr. Christoph Strutz

Senior Vice President
