Press release from

Well-known physicist and astronomer Stephen Webb talks about the search for extraterrestrial civilisations

Are we alone in the universe? British physicist and astronomer Stephen Webb will address this issue at the upcoming Leibniz Campus Lecture on Thursday 21 November 2019. The event will take place in the atrium (Lichthof) of the main university building of Leibniz University Hannover (Welfengarten 1, 30167 Hannover) and starts at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5.30 p.m.). The lecture will be held in English. Please register at www.uni-hannover.de/campuslecture.

In this talk, the researcher will discuss the Fermi paradox, which states that extraterrestrial and highly intelligent life should exist elsewhere, although it has not been detected yet. Audience members are welcome to share their views on this fascinating issue and contribute their own resolution of the paradox.

Stephen Webb, Head of Technology Enhanced Learning at the University of Portsmouth (UK) is a physicist, astronomer, and the author of numerous (popular) scientific publications, such as the award-winning book "Where is Everybody?". His TED Talk "Where are all the aliens?" has been viewed 4.7 million times.

The Leibniz Campus Lecture is a science communication event of Leibniz University Hannover and addresses members of the public, as well as students and university staff. Internationally renowned researchers present current issues in a straightforward manner. The lecture will be held in English, there will be no simultaneous translation.
