Bringing together engineering and medicine, the new degree programme Medical Technology enables students to explore the intersection of these two disciplines. The six-semester bachelor’s degree programme Medical Technology is jointly offered by Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and Hannover Medical School (MHH) and will welcome its first students in winter semester 2026/27. As the programme currently has no admission restrictions, prospective students can enrol until 30 September 2026.
The use of AI and robotics in medicine, work with stem cells and the development of innovative new mobility aids for people who are unable to walk are just some of the cutting-edge topics explored in the degree programme. The aim is to acquire practical knowledge in the fields of medicine and engineering, covering a wide range of medical technology solutions from prevention and diagnostics to therapy and follow-up care. The degree programme also covers ethical, legal and regulatory issues, quality management and the approval processes for medical devices.
In the first phase of the degree programme, students primarily acquire fundamental knowledge. At MHH, students gain knowledge of anatomical and physiological principles and clinical applications, while LUH covers a broad range of technical subjects. From the fourth semester, students can specialise in different areas. Students also have the opportunity to spend time abroad. Moreover, individual modules of the degree programme will be taught in English.
Graduates will have career opportunities in research centres, healthcare institutions and companies manufacturing medical devices. The bachelor’s degree also qualifies graduates to pursue a subsequent master’s degree, for example in biomedical engineering or in many areas of mechanical engineering.
