For students who are the first in their family to go to university, the German University Foundation offers special support through its TANDEM scholarship programme:
In addition to personalised one-to-one mentoring from a university lecturer, the programme includes workshops on key skills, personal coaching sessions, networking events, a digital package and a study-related budget. The funding supports scholarship holders throughout their first degree and, under certain conditions, may also be continued during their Master’s degree.
Students whose parents do not hold an academic qualification and who are due to commence or have commenced a degree programme at a German university or university of applied sciences in the winter semester 2026/27 or the summer semester 2026 are eligible to apply.
Further requirements include voluntary work and good academic performance at school.
The deadline for applications is 1 September 2026.
