Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) is welcoming 5,855 new bachelor's and master’s students in winter semester 2025/26. This is an increase of 4 per cent over the enrolment figures for the previous year. The overall number of enrolled students continues to be in decline and is currently approximately 25,300 (final number for previous year: 26,079). This is due in particular to large student cohorts who have left the university after graduation and cannot be completely replaced by new enrolments. At the moment the enrolment process is highly dynamic – partly as a result of the random-selection procedure currently underway. Final figures for the beginning of the semester will be available in mid-November.
Based on the provisional figures available as of 6 October 2025, 4,003 first-year students will begin one of the 31 bachelor's degree programmes or law studies at Leibniz University Hannover in winter semester. This number is approximately 6 per cent higher than in the previous year and almost at the same level as two years ago. Most new students are enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degree (624) or in the degree programmes Economics and Management (512), Law (415), Civil and Environmental Engineering (235), Computer Science (212) and Special Needs Education (172).
1,852 students, slightly more than in the previous year, have enrolled in one of the 51 master's degree programmes. The demand for these programmes therefore remains stable. The largest master's degree programmes are the Teacher Training Course for Grammar Schools (261 enrolments), Special Needs Education (176), Economics and Management (147), Civil Engineering (110) and Mechatronics and Robotics (91).
The total number of international students at LUH is currently 3,447 and will likely remain below the figure for the previous year (3,790). Most of the so-called foreign nationals are from China (453), India (441), Iran (321), Tunisia (276) and Syria (202).
