This detailed model is a miniature version of Leibniz University Hannover’s main building. Made of hundreds of pieces, it shows the historical building’s striking architecture, including its impressive towers and façades. The elegant Lichthof is also visible thanks to the clever positioning of a mirror.
The Welfenschloss became the university’s main building in 1879. It was originally planned as a residence for the Kingdom of Hannover, but this never came to be. Today the building is home to lecture halls, seminar rooms, the Student Advisory Services office and student study spaces. The university management and a significant share of the administration are also located here.
Leibniz University Hannover
As one of the top nine technical universities in Germany, Leibniz University Hannover is as diverse and open to new ideas as its namesake, the polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. The range of subjects taught at LUH includes engineering, the natural sciences, architecture, environmental planning, law, social sciences, economics, business administration, and the humanities. In the 2026 academic year, 82 degree programmes were offered. Approximately 25,000 students are currently enrolled at LUH, and more than 5,000 people are employed at the university. Leibniz University Hannover offers vocational training in a wide range of professional fields, from carpentry and administration to precision mechanics.
