The European elections will be held on 26 May – so what? Who actually needs the EU? What does Europe mean to you? With lectures, films, a poetry slam, our 4th International day and much more events we will take you on a journey through Europe – and beyond!

    Naturally, you will also have the opportunity to taste the culinary variety of Europe. In line with the European theme, a different dish will be offered each day at the cafeteria from Monday to Friday. Enjoy!

    The young waitress, Amélie, works in a café in Montmartre and helps her often somewhat peculiar guests and hypochondriac colleagues, thereby, getting lost in her own fantastical world. She then falls in love with Nino, a quirky collector, however she is unsure about how to pursue him. Now it is Amélie that needs help.

    Ove, a grumpy pensioner, has long given up on life. Since the death of his wife, he has tried to take his own life numerous times - to no avail. His latest attempt was interrupted by his new neighbours, who surprisingly give him a new purpose in life.

    The course is provided by Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the partnership together with Leibniz University Hannover.

    Have you always wanted to learn Russian? Now you finally have the chance to gain an insight into the fascinating language. In the 3-hour crash course in Russian, guest lecturers of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University will teach you the basics.

    We gladly invite you to join us for coffee and cake whilst discussing the linguistic diversity in Europe. We find it particularly fascinating to explore whether there are any “untranslatable words”. For example, the German word “Fernweh”. Other examples include “Madarlatta” (Hungarian) or “Desenrascanço” (Portuguese). Interested? We look forward to seeing you on 17 May!

    The first part addresses the question: How multilingual are Europeans? Subsequently, teaching methods to foster multilingualism are presented and explored with respect to French language learning. In the second part, the programme by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK) “Sprachen für Europa” (languages for Europe)” and the FSZ Polish language courses: from Hannover to Poznań, Poland will be presented.

    Language games are fun as well as encouraging learners to practice speaking and understanding a language. Through play, you can expand your vocabulary, whilst getting to know other students. The Centre for Applied Linguistics and Special Languages (FSZ) will provide the following games: "New Amici” (Spanish-German, English-German), “Tabu” (English, Spanish, German), Black Stories (German). Games in other languages are also available.

    The film depicts the life of East German singer Gerhard Gundermann. After the fall of the Berlin wall, his history with the “Stasi” (Ministry for State Security) becomes known. Whilst Gundermann is responsible for terrible acts, he is also a victim of the injustice of the GDR. It is certainly a film to make you think.

    Four poetry slam pros battle it out lyrically on the subject of Europe. In addition to dealing with the current political situation, the poets, Meral Ziegler, Josefine Berkholz, Nils Frenzel, and Paul Bokowski, will also present personal stories. The “Europa Slam” will be presented by Johannes Berger.

Naturally, you must shoot goals to win, but with the added amusement factor! Come to our “International Speed Dating” event and find out whether any of the stereotypes are true, whilst learning more about other cultures. Afterwards, a “Pot Luck” dinner is planned; please bring food or drink that is typical in your favourite country or country of origin.
