Advanced English for written and spoken communication (level C1)

You already have a good to very good knowledge of English. Nevertheless you would like develop a better familiarity with idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms. You would like to avoid typical mistakes of non-native speakers and to be able to adjust your language style to the context.

This course focuses on language skills for your working situations, such as describing work-related content in an e-mail, presenting your work and answering related questions. You will learn how to express consent or opposing views in a meeting. At the end of the course you will be more confident in how to use English in varying international settings. You will also have learned how to effectively engage in conversations at international conferences.

In this course you will develop your English language skills on the basis of authentic, subject-specific tasks. You will also work with authentic texts. Tasks and texts will be chosen based on your individual topics and needs. You will receive structured feedback on your oral and written text production, both in terms of linguistic correctness and in terms of stylistic and culturally sensitive appropriateness.

Guideline for participation in the language courses

The language courses offered in the training and qualification programme are systematised according to the competence levels of the Common Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This provides a benchmark for the acquisition of language skills and aims to make different language certificates comparable with each other.
