Speak Up! English for Meetings Online & in Person

In this practice-oriented course, you will learn how to confidently conduct meetings in English – whether online or in person. You will expand your vocabulary, practise typical phrases and train interactive conversation situations such as discussions, decision-making and feedback. Special attention is paid to intercultural communication and professional etiquette. Relevant grammatical forms are covered as needed. Modern AI tools such as LUHKI2 and DeepL are used specifically to facilitate the preparation and follow-up of meetings. Critical aspects of AI use are also discussed.

The following topics will be covered:

  • focused meetings in English: clearly communicating the agenda, objectives and roles
  • active participation and clarification: agreeing, asking questions, politely interrupting; indirect questions and question suffixes
  • problem solving and decision making: discussing options, negotiating, reaching consensus; summarising decisions/actions and securing them via follow-up email
  • virtual etiquette and intercultural aspects: camera/microphone, time zones, cultural differences; giving feedback and managing technical hurdles
  • AI-supported practice: using LUHKI2 and DeepL effectively, critically and in a data protection-conscious manner
