Heat Exchangers - Fascinating Applications and Examples of Industrial Research
This presentation describes examples of experimental and analytical research undertaken to support modelling of industrial heat exchangers, used primarily in chemical process plants. As a backdrop to the examples of research, some fascinating industrial applications that require multi-stream heat exchangers are discussed in detail, along with how multiple streams are introduced in the exchanger and how they are arranged internally in the exchanger to maximise the amount heat transferred and minimise the transverse vairation of wall temperature. These multi-steram complexities directly impact the exchanger modelling because the axial profiles for temperature, pressure and vapour quality need to be calculated for multiple streams flowing in multiple flow passages.
