University Professorship (m/f/d) in Quantum and Photonic Systems Engineering

We strive for universality, diversity and interdisciplinarity. With more than 28,000 students, three Clusters of Excellence, 5,000 members of staff, over 150 institutes and an outstanding infrastructure, Leibniz University Hannover offers an innovative environment for top-level education and research in a comprehensive range of subjects.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Leibniz Research School of Optics & Photonics invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO starting as soon as possible: University Professorship (m/f/d) in Quantum and Photonic Systems Engineering

The Position

The global market for quantum technologies and photonics is estimated by various observers to have enormous growth rates. There is an increased need for research in the field of quantum and photonic systems in the engineering sciences. The advertised position is intended to close this gap and, together with partners from industry and science, enable the transfer of quantum and photonic technologies into application. In addition, the professorship will become a member of the Leibniz Research School for Optics & Photonics founded in 2020. It is expected that the professorship will be integrated into the research program of the OPTICUM research building currently under construction on the new optics campus in Hannover-Marienwerder.

The professorship deals with the design and layout of photonic quantum systems from a manufacturing point of view. This includes the assembly and connection technology of sources and waveguides as well as sensor integration. The aim is to design and manufacture prototype structures using high-resolution beam processes and the coating of optical components.

The implementation of applications of quantum optical systems in sensor technology and information processing are also the subject of the professorship. Applications can be found in energy technology, mechanics and fluid mechanics and production technology. Cooperation in the simulation of technical applications using quantum computing is also conceivable.

The professorship is assigned to the Production and Logistics research focus of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with an independent new institute. There it will establish a new focus in research and teaching and also make important contributions to innovative production processes and energy technology issues. It forms a bridge between the focal points of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the research objectives of the Leibniz Research School of Optics & Photonics in an area with an extraordinarily high potential for innovation.
