Privacy Statement for the LUH Facebook Page

The Facebook page of Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) is available at https://facebook.com/unihannover (hereafter referred to as "Facebook page"). As per Article 26 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover is joint data controller of the Facebook page together with Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd., Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland.

Please be advised that we do not accept liability for your use of the page and its functions, you do so under your own responsibility. In particular, this applies to the use of interactive functions (e.g. comment, share, like). Alternatively, information featured on the Facebook page can also be found on the university website at www.uni-hannover.de.

When you visit our Facebook page information such as your IP address is collected by Meta via cookies that are stored on your PC. This information is used to provide the page administrator with statistics on the actions taken by people that visit the page.

Further information is provided by Meta on the following pages:

The collected data will be processed by Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. and possibly transferred to countries outside of the European Union. The type of information collected and used by Meta is described in Meta's data policy. There you will also find Meta's contact information as well as settings for advertisements.

Meta does not explicitly or conclusively indicate in what way data from visits to Facebook pages are used for its own purposes, to what extent the activities when visiting the Facebook page can be assigned to individual users, how long Meta stores this data and whether data from visiting the Facebook page will be disclosed to third parties. This information is currently unknown to us.

When you access a Facebook page the IP address assigned to your device will be transmitted to Meta. According to Meta, your IP address will be anonymised (in the case of "German" IP addresses) and erased after 90 days. In addition, Meta stores information regarding the user's device (e.g. via the function enabling users to receive alerts regarding unrecognised logins). Consequently, Meta may be able to assign IP addresses to individual users.

If you are logged in to Facebook, a cookie with your Facebook ID is stored on your device. This enables Meta to track your visit to this page as well as your actions. This also applies for all other Facebook pages. Facebook buttons embedded on websites enable Meta to track your visits to these websites and assign them to your Facebook profile. This data can be used to personalise content or advertisements to your needs.

In order to prevent this, you should log out of Facebook or deactivate the "keep me logged in" function, then erase the cookies stored on your device and restart your browser. This will erase Facebook data, via which you may be directly identified. You will then be able to visit our Facebook page without revealing your Facebook ID. If you interact with functions on the page (like, comment, share, message, etc.) the Facebook login screen will appear. If you log in, you will once again be recognised via your Facebook ID.

Further information on how you can manage or erase existing information about you can be found on the following Facebook support page:

As the information service provider we do not collect or process any further information from your visit. In addition, our general privacy policy shall apply: https://www.uni-hannover.de/en/datenschutzerklaerung/
