Financial Support for international Students

The International Office awards one-off grants ("Einmalige Beihilfen") and degree completion grants (“Studienabschlussbeihilfen”) to international students from non-EU countries who are currently enrolled at Leibniz University Hannover.

One-Off Grants ("Einmalige Beihilfen")

Applicants must be enrolled in one of the later semesters of a bachelor’s or master’s degree at Leibniz University Hannover, thus, a minimum of 50% of the required overall credits should already have been completed. In hardship cases exceptions are possible, but must be justified separately.

As a rule, one-off grants can only be awarded once for the entire duration of studies. The grant can be given to students experiencing temporary financial difficulty. A counselling interview is obligatory.

Applications may be filed at any time. Please submit the required documents during the office hours of the International Office at the ServiceCenter (Mondays: 11.00 - 13.00 and Wednesdays: 14.00 -16.00, during the lecture-free period: Wednesdays 14.00 - 16.00).

Please note: the application cannot submit at the International Office or send by mail. Such applications will be rejected.

Degree Completion Grant ("Studienabschlussbeihilfe")

The Degree Completion Grant (“Studienabschlussbeihilfe”) aims to support international students at Leibniz University Hannover during their degree completion phase who are experiencing financial difficulty, due to unexpected circumstances through no fault of their own.

A grant can be awarded to international students who, at the time of application, have already registered for the thesis.

Once a complete application has been submitted, the applicant will be invited to a one-on-one interview.

The submission deadlines are: end of January, March and October respectively, as well as 15th July. Award of a grant will occur shortly after the selection interview.
