Short Description
English is offered as a teaching subject (or supplementary teaching subject) within the degree programme Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. As a first subject, a vocational subject must be studied.
Students on the Master’s degree programme acquire the specialist and teaching skills required to work successfully as a vocational school teacher.
Teaching methodology is of great importance to students aspiring to become school teachers. In addition to the customary theoretical education in teaching methodology, students complete two weeks of practical training at a school after attending a preparatory seminar. Seconded teachers help prepare students for their practical training. The subject of English Studies cooperates with post-secondary schools in and around Hannover where students can undertake their practical training.

Students on the Master’s degree programme are taught about the English language, literature and culture in a practice-oriented, modern way. In teaching methodology, students learn about different teaching techniques. They take a compulsory course in “Planning and Analysis of English Lessons” to prepare them for their two weeks of practical training at a school. Students then have the know-how required to teach English in future.
In the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education, students expand on the knowledge of literature, cultural studies and linguistics acquired on the Bachelor’s degree programme.
All students who take English Studies as a subject in the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education spend a three-month study-relevant period abroad in a country where English is the official language. The English Department maintains contacts with British, American and international universities, and provides support to students seeking to go abroad.
