Short Description

Metals Technologyis offered as a vocational subject within the degree programme Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. In addition, a second teaching subject must be studied.

The Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education prepares students for entry to the preparatory phase of teacher training for technical education.

In order to teach at vocational schools, graduates must complete the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education, the State Examination and 52 weeks of practical training.

Teachers of technical education teach at various types of school, including vocational school, pre-vocational school, specialist vocational school, technical college, technical grammar school and technical school. In these types of school, teaching staff teach subjects and learning areas related to metals technology.

The degree programme is subject to restricted admission. Applicants who have completed a two-subject Bachelor’s degree programme will be admitted.

Course Structure

The Metals Technology part of the course comprises 48 ECTS credit points (CP). It involves the modules Control Engineering, Manufacturing Processes and two optional modules. In addition to the technical modules, the part of the course also encompasses modules on vocational studies in the vocational subject area of Metals Technology.
The programme concludes with a Master’s thesis (20 CP), which students may prepare at any of the institutes within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Students must provide evidence of having completed 52 weeks of practical training in order to be admitted to the Master’s thesis.

In addition to having an interest in the vocational subject area of Metals Technology and the teaching subject, prospective students should enjoy interacting with people, and should be empathetic, open to criticism and able to reflect on their actions.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education are eligible for the preparatory phase of teacher training for technical education. The preparatory phase of teacher training concludes with the State Examination, which entitles students to enter the teaching profession in the Federal State of Lower Saxony.
