Winter semester 2021/2022 – On-campus Learning at Leibniz University Hannover

Dear colleagues and students,

In order to establish clarity and a sense of direction as early as possible, today I would like to provide an insight into the prospective plans for winter semester 2021/2022.

On-campus learning is a fundamental aspect of Leibniz University Hannover, constituting an inherent part of our commitment. It is an essential part of university life and is indispensable in maintaining good rapport between teaching staff and students, not to mention identification with our university.

In winter semester 2021/2022, our university will return to on-campus learning. The current room occupancy is geared towards normal attendance. Students and teaching staff should prepare to be present at Leibniz University Hannover.

However, please keep in mind that it may be necessary to switch to an online semester at short notice due to the pandemic, as was the case for winter semester 2020/2021. A complete return to on-campus learning fundamentally depends on the political decision to no longer enforce the regulations on distancing and would not be feasible otherwise in terms of organisation and infrastructure. Should the regulations on distance continue to apply, Leibniz University Hannover will have to return to online learning. The exceptions that have been communicated and put into practice to date would then apply. This includes courses that absolutely require attendance, without which the duration of study would be prolonged, as well as courses in small groups for first-semester students to ensure they settle into the university system.

However, based on the current development of the pandemic and progress in vaccination we assume that a return to on-campus learning will be possible.

On 25 June, the emergency committee of LUH will provide consultation according to the then applicable coronavirus regulations for the state of Lower Saxony on topics such as access to university buildings, study areas, working from home, events and much more. Here too, I ask you to remain patient. Information will be provided as soon as possible.

However, at this point in time I would like to announce prospective on-campus learning for winter semester 2021/2022.

Yours sincerely,
Prof. Dr. Volker Epping
President
